Born and raised in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Rafael moved to the northwest suburbs of Chicago when he was 13 years old. Having always known that he wanted to study architecture, he attended Harper College before transferring to the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he’s currently working toward his Bachelor of Science in Architecture. When not at SGA, Rafel can usually be found doing homework, attempting to exercise, or doing his part to advance the civil rights movement as an advocate for the National Immigrant Justice Center and the office of Senator Dick Durbin.
Though there’s been a lot of change in my life, I have never been in a place like SGA or met people like the ones who work here. It’s truly extraordinary.
